Vanessies never disappoints for piano music. Estah was egnaging and covered Rat Pack to Cold Play I went to Vanessie’s on a date and I have to say, it was one of the best dates I have ever been on, solely because of Doug Montgomery. While my partner was lacking, Mr. Montgomery certainly was not and his skill at the piano kept the night fun and interesting. He knows how to entertain the crowd and happens to be extremely handsome himself.

The food was good and the service was great, so I highly recommend Vanessie’s for anyone looking for an “out of the ordinary” date spot! Hidden gem for 30 years! Great food, World class live music, Luxury lodging! I have been going to Vanessie for years, and last night I sat down and wrote to Doug Montgomery to thank him because I just couldn’t get his incredible talent out of my head. He offers musicianship of the highest order –creativity, inventiveness, majestic arpeggios, flawless scales, and counterpoint — the weaving of two or three themes together — major, then minor… it all is mind-boggling when you understand it.

Roli is best known for its flagship product, the Seaboard. That device is a futuristic-looking keyboard with a squishy, flat black surface in place of physical keys. The touch-sensitive surface responds to different gestures and can detect the amount of pressure behind each caress. By comparison, the Lumi is a more traditional keyboard, in that it has regular keys.

There are only 24 of them—about a quarter of the keys you’ll find on a full-sized piano—but this limitation was intentional, as the Lumi is designed with portability in mind. Snap three or four Lumis together and you have something approaching, or even exceeding, the range of a full-sized keyboard.

A musician’s brain is different to that of a non-musician. Making music requires a complex interplay of various abilities which are also reflected in more strongly developed brain structures. Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences MPI CBS in Leipzig have recently discovered that these capabilities are embedded in a much more finely-tuned way than previously assumed — and even differ depending on the style of the music: They observed that the brain activity of jazz pianists differs from those of classical pianists, even when playing the same piece of music.

This could give insight into the processes which generally take place while making music and which are specific for certain styles. Keith Jarrett, world-famous jazz pianist, once answered in an interview when asked if he would ever be interested in doing a concert where he would play both jazz and classical music: “No, that’s hilarious. Your system demands different circuitry for either of those two things.

Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences MPI CBS in Leipzig demonstrated that there could be a neuroscientific explanation for this phenomenon: They observed that while playing the piano, different processes occur in jazz and classical pianists’ brains, even when performing the same piece.

The piano is an acoustic, stringed musical instrument invented in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori around the year the exact year is uncertain , in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather. It is played using a keyboard , which is a row of keys small levers that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both hands to cause the hammers to strike the strings.

The word piano is a shortened form of pianoforte , the Italian term for the early s versions of the instrument, which in turn derives from gravicembalo col piano e forte [1] and fortepiano. The Italian musical terms piano and forte indicate “soft” and “loud” respectively, [2] in this context referring to the variations in volume i. The name was created as a contrast to harpsichord , a musical instrument that does not allow variation in volume; compared to the harpsichord, the first fortepianos in the s had a quieter sound and smaller dynamic range.

A piano usually has a protective wooden case surrounding the soundboard and metal strings , which are strung under great tension on a heavy metal frame. Pressing one or more keys on the piano’s keyboard causes a wooden or plastic hammer typically padded with firm felt to strike the strings. The hammer rebounds from the strings, and the strings continue to vibrate at their resonant frequency. When the key is released, a damper stops the strings’ vibration, ending the sound.

Notes can be sustained, even when the keys are released by the fingers and thumbs, by the use of pedals at the base of the instrument. The sustain pedal enables pianists to play musical passages that would otherwise be impossible, such as sounding a note chord in the lower register and then, while this chord is being continued with the sustain pedal, shifting both hands to the treble range to play a melody and arpeggios over the top of this sustained chord. Unlike the pipe organ and harpsichord, two major keyboard instruments widely used before the piano, the piano allows gradations of volume and tone according to how forcefully or softly a performer presses or strikes the keys.

Most modern pianos have a row of 88 black and white keys, 52 white keys for the notes of the C major scale C, D, E, F, G, A and B and 36 shorter black keys, which are raised above the white keys, and set further back on the keyboard. This means that the piano can play 88 different pitches or “notes” , going from the deepest bass range to the highest treble.
